I am hanging up my judo suit at the end of this year to go on to pastures new.
I have been coaching judo for over 32 years and involved with the sport for 36
years. I now wish to hand the club over to younger blood and for the club to
develop.
Any parent who would like to get involved in helping to run Ruislip Gardens
Judo Club and can assist the existing coaches then please see me and I will
arrange free of charge appropriate training for that role.
It is hoped that the judo club will thrive and that the coaches who do take
over will get as much enjoyment as I have had over the years.
I hope that some of you will join me in a drink at Christmas time (on me).
Some members of Brunel Judo Club entered The British University Sports
Association Games over weekend 17/18th March held at Wolverhampton University.
Over 300 contestants attended. Two Gold and two bronze medals were won in the

with one of our players having to be taken to hospital with an injury that put
him out of the team event on the Sunday. Brunel narrowly missed out by one bout
a place in t he finals with their old rivals Bath University who went on to win
the event for a third year.
Andy Coldwell won his 1st Kuyu brown belt at a grading held at Willeseden
Sports Centre today Sat 3rd Feb.
He will now start his points for his black belt in March. Best of luck to him

As you are aware Ruislip Gardens Judo Club has held sponsored judo sessions the
last 4 weeks to raise money for Cancer research UK. I shall be collecting
sponsorship over the next few weeks at the judo club. Participants will receive
a certificate of achievement with the amount of throws displayed.
Monies raised will contribute to the overall amount from a 24 hour sponsored
relay walk which I am involved in held at Queensmead School, Queens Walk from
6pm - 6pm Fri/Sat 7th/8th July. This event is billed as a Festival of Education
and Information relating the more positive aspects and advancement on cancer
research and treatments. Stalls relating to health, cancer awareness,
complimentary therapies, displays (to include judo), live music (no I am not
playing but my son is) and much more.
Please come along and help support this event. It is not until a loved one or a
close friend contracts cancer that you really value the work and efforts that
are put in to increase the chances of survival. For more information please go

On Saturday 13th May Suzy Nathan became
'Woman's Special Needs European Judo
Champion' 60kg class.
This International competition was held in Ravenna, Italy. There were seventeen
countries represented with 212 competitors. Suzy fought extremely well against
some very formidable opponents and she won her pool to take gold.
In a recent competition in Beverwijk, Holland, Suzy won a bronze in the 60kg
division and a bronze in the open weight. From this competition Suzy gained
valuable experience and she worked on her favourite throw and hold with her
instructor, Vic Webber, 3rd Dan, which helped her secure victory in Italy.
The above competitions were organised by 'The International Judo Special Needs
Federation' and it is intended to hold a World Championship in China in 2008 in
which Suzy will compete as to continue her great successes within her sport of
judo.
Suzy will be taking her brown belt grading in September with her club Ruislip
Gardens Judo under the guidance of her coach Vic. If successful Suzy can to
then go for Black-Belt a year after this which could be England's first? Vic in
the past has trained a totally blind man and a female player with one hand to
their Black-Belts competing against able bodied players and he works around a
persons ability and then stretches outwards.
Vic says as Suzy's coach, I am thrilled by her successes and achievements which
demonstrates that with effort and a bit of commitment and determination you can
overcome disabilities and achieve just like anyone else. Suzy will be competing
again in France and Scotland later this year.
Ruislip Gardens Judo Club train on a Tuesday evening at Queensmead School,
Queens Walk, Sth Ruislip. Juniors 7-830pm and seniors 8.30-945pm. Vic also
teaches at Brunel Judo Club on a Thursday evening, Uxbridge Campus, 6-8pm.
Information regarding both clubs please contact Vic Webber on 07749250866 or
visit www.ruislipgardensjudoclub.org.uk or contact bruneljudo@yahoo.co.uk For
further information regarding special needs judo contact Mike Gingell, Grange
Judo Club on 07802425711
Scott, Suzy will be looking for sponsorship to help with her future travel
costs as her carers (Mum and Dad) have to pay for themselves. If you feel it
appropriate to include this bit. Anyone can contact me and I will pass them on
to Suzy's Parents. Hillingdon Sports Council have been supportive with funds
but any extra would be appreciated
Thank you
Regards
Vic Webber
Suzy and Vic came runners up at 'The London Sports Awards Ceremony' held at
London City Hall on Thursday 2nd March. Out of over a thousand nominees over
twelve categories to come runners up is a great achievement for our club and
for judo in Hillingdon.
The London Sports Awards, supported by the London Development Agency, Sport
England and the London Sports Forum for Disabled People, recognise the
outstanding achievements of individuals and groups in the field of sports for
disabled people. Sport provides pathways for disabled people to compete at an
elite level, or develop a career in sport as a coach or volunteer. By
increasing awareness of opportunities available for disabled people to get
involved in sport and promoting positive role models and best practice we can
aim to improve the development pathways for disabled persons to reach their
potential in sport.
Suzy Nathan - (Hillingdon) Since gaining her blue belt last September, Suzy
